Structured Literacy & Science of Reading

At Mindfully Instructive, I create literacy resources and classroom tools grounded in the Science of Reading and the Orton–Gillingham approach, methods backed by decades of research on how the brain learns to read.

Structured literacy works because it’s explicit, systematic, and multisensory. Students learn to decode and spell by recognizing the patterns and rules that make up English, one step at a time. This approach supports every learner, especially those with dyslexia or other reading difficulties, by connecting sounds, symbols, and meaning in intentional ways.

All of the materials and activities shared here are created by a teacher with over 20 years of classroom experience and certification training through the Certified level of Orton–Gillingham. My goal is to make effective instruction feel doable for real teachersresources that are structured and evidence-based, but also flexible enough to use that very same day.

You’ll find practical posts, printable materials, and teaching ideas designed to support structured literacy instruction, reading intervention, and multisensory learning for all ages.

Whether you’re new to Orton–Gillingham or deep into Science of Reading implementation, you’ll find practical tools here to make evidence-based instruction easier to apply each day!
