Individualized Tutoring in Madison CT (serving the CT Shoreline)
Dyslexia and Learning Disabilities
Students who struggle with reading and spelling can benefit from
private instruction in structured literacy. Whether your child has
dyslexia, another language-based learning disability, or they're simply
falling behind in reading or spelling, they can benefit from structured
literacy instruction.
The Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach is a personalized, one-to-one
teaching method. OG is a phonics-based program that is primarily used to
teach students who have difficulty with written language (reading,
spelling, writing, or vocabulary), but its application can benefit
learners of all ages. It is a systematic, multi-sensory approach that is
tailored for the individual student (for more extensive info about Orton-Gillingham).
ADHD and Executive Function Challenges
Traditional classroom environments are often not set up for students with ADHD/ADD or executive function challenges. Because of this, it's easy for these types of learners to fall behind in class, often resulting in their inability to reach their full academic potential. They may be characterized as "difficult," "lazy," or "unwilling to put in the effort," when in reality, they're just not being taught the way they learn.
In our tutoring sessions, we use engaging methods of teaching can help non-traditional learners get back on track in the classroom, improve their confidence, and allow them to capitalize on their strengths so they can fully reach their academic potential.
General Academic Support
Regular tutoring sessions can also be tailored to help with:
- Reading Comprehension and Fluency
- Writing Skills and College Essays
- Vocabulary and SAT/ACT preparation
- Avoiding the "summer slide"
- Math tutoring K-8
